Anonymous hacks unsecured printers to send anti-war messages across Russia

Anonymous  carried out a large number of "print attacks", sending more than 100,000  copies of printed matter to Russian citizens, opposed the war and avoided domestic censorship.

Anonymous hacktivists endanger vulnerable and misconfigured printers across Russia and send hard copies to users with anti-war messages. The nature of this attack is similar to last month's Anonymous attack. In this attack, the group hacked a misconfigured cloud database owned by a Russian company, leaving a message about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

40,000+ Copies Printed Sent

The details of the attack were shared with Hackread.com by one of the anonymous member groups. According to this, on Sunday, March 20, 2022, the group  targeted 160 devices and printed more than 40,000 anti-war and "anti-propaganda" copies. "Russian message.

The printed copy also explained how users can use the Tor browser to circumvent censorship in Russia. It is worth noting that the Russian government has blocked Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, BBC News, Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, Bellingcat, Amnesty International, Meduza.io, Ukrayinska Pravda, InterfaxUkraine, RadioFreeLiberty and more since the invasion. Ukraine on Thursday,  February 24, 2022.

The printers were misconfigured, and manually forwarded on the Russian routers. In every case we have reviewed, the port was deliberately forwarded.“ 

PDFs Printed with Anti-Propaganda Messages 

In a communication with Anonymous, Hackread.com turned into advised that the hacked printers had been compelled to print PDFs with a message informing Russians that “their president, the government, and media all had been feeding them lies.” 

 For handling the statistics blockade issue, Anonymous supplied commands on the way to set up tor to get entry to proper information approximately the struggle fare and stay away from Kremlin`s media censorship.

“Citizens of Russia, act now to stop terrorist. Putin killing over thousands in Ukraine… The people of Russia should find horror in Putin’s actions,” the message read.

It is a well-known fact that Anonymous supported Ukraine over the ongoing conflict between the two countries. The group has so far spread the message to the government and  private sector.
